Cottage Cheese Chocolate Mousse
Rich, creamy, secretly high-protein chocolate dessert
If you told me a year ago that cottage cheese would turn into one of my favorite chocolate desserts… I would not have believed you.
But here we are.
This Cottage Cheese Chocolate Mousse is silky, deeply chocolatey, lightly sweet, and honestly tastes like something you’d order at a restaurant - except it’s made in 5 minutes with simple ingredients and packed with protein.
It’s one of those recipes that feels like a secret. You blend it, chill it, and suddenly you have a dessert that tastes indulgent but is secretly nourishing.
Whether you’re craving something sweet after dinner, need a mid-afternoon chocolate fix, or want a healthier dessert option that still feels decadent - this is it.
Let’s make it.

How to Make Cottage Cheese Chocolate Mousse
Step 1: Blend Until Completely Smooth
Add the cottage cheese, maple syrup, cocoa powder, vanilla, salt, and melted dark chocolate to a high-speed blender or food processor.
Blend for 1–2 minutes until completely smooth and silky.
This is the most important step. Scrape down the sides and blend again if needed. You want it completely creamy - no texture remaining.
If it looks thick, that’s perfect. If it feels too thick for your liking, you can add 1–2 teaspoons of milk and blend again.
Step 2: Taste and Adjust
Taste it.
Want it sweeter? Add more maple syrup.
Want it deeper and richer? Add a little more cocoa or melted chocolate.
Want it darker? Add a pinch more salt — it enhances the chocolate flavor.
Blend again briefly after adjustments.
Step 3: Chill (Optional but Makes It Better)
You can absolutely eat it right away and it’s delicious.
But if you refrigerate it for 30 minutes, it thickens slightly and becomes even more mousse-like.
Spoon into small jars or serving bowls and chill.
Step 4: Top and Serve
Right before serving, add your toppings.
My favorite:
Dark chocolate shavings
A tiny pinch of flaky sea salt
Fresh mint
It looks elegant and tastes indulgent.
Texture Tips (Important)
If your mousse:
Feels grainy → Blend longer.
Feels too thick → Add 1–2 teaspoons milk and blend.
Feels too thin → Chill longer.
Tastes slightly tangy → Add a touch more maple syrup and salt.
Full-fat cottage cheese gives the smoothest, creamiest result. Low-fat works, but full-fat is best for dessert texture.
How to Store
Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
It actually gets thicker overnight, making it perfect for meal prep.
Stir gently before serving if needed.
Ways to Customize
You can turn this base into so many variations.
Peanut Butter Chocolate
Blend in 1 tablespoon natural peanut butter.
Mocha
Add ½ teaspoon instant espresso powder.
Orange Chocolate
Add ½ teaspoon orange zest.
Chocolate Mint
Add ¼ teaspoon peppermint extract.
High-Protein Snack Bowl
Top with:
It becomes more of a breakfast/dessert hybrid.
Can You Taste the Cottage Cheese?
No.
Once blended properly, it tastes like chocolate mousse. The cocoa, maple syrup, and vanilla completely transform it.
If someone didn’t know, they wouldn’t guess.
Nutrition Bonus
